Item Units
Item Units define how your inventory items are measured, stored, and sold. This helps ensure consistency across inventory tracking, reporting, and item setup, whether you sell drinks by the cup, produce by the kilogram, or retail goods by the piece.
Understanding Item Units
Units define how quantities are displayed and managed throughout TechSuite, during purchasing, stock management, and sales. For example, you might buy milk in litres, stock it in millilitres, and sell it by the cup.
Each unit has a singular and plural label that controls how it appears in the system (e.g. 1 Cup vs. 3 Cups).
Only active units will appear as selectable options when setting up or editing items. You can toggle units on or off anytime to control what’s available to your team.
To Get Started
To access Item Units settings, log in to the TechSuite portal and go to Settings > System Settings from the sidebar. Next, under the Inventory Settings section, click Item Units. You’ll land on a page that lists all available units in your system, such as Item, Gram, Bottle, and more..
Adding a New Item Unit
To add a new item unit, go to the top-right corner of the Item Units settings page and click the Add Item Unit button
. This will open a panel where you can configure all the key details.
a. Unit Singular Name
How the unit appears when the quantity is one (e.g. Piece, Bottle).
b. Unit Plural Name
How it appears when the quantity is more than one (e.g. Pieces, Bottles)
c. Save the Unit
Click the Save button
to add the new unit to your system. It will now appear in the list and can be toggled on or off as needed.
Item Units Page Overview
The Item Units page stores all the measurement types your business can use when creating or editing inventory items. This ensures consistent unit naming across menus, reports, and stock control.
The list includes default units (e.g. Gram, Bottle, Piece) as well as any custom units you add. Default units cannot be archived but can be edited to update their singular or plural names. Custom units can be edited or archived as needed.
a. List of Built‑in Units
The top of the list shows system units provided by default. You can edit their singular and plural names and toggle them on or off as needed.
b. Your Custom Units
Any units you add appear below the built‑in list. Custom units can be edited, activated/deactivated, or archived when no longer needed.
c. Understanding Item Unit Rows
Each row lets you control a single unit:
Here’s what each part of the row represents:
- Active Toggle: Turns the item unit on or off. When toggled off, only active units will appear as options when creating or editing items.
- Unit Singular Name: Shows how the unit is displayed when the quantity is one (e.g. Gram, Bottle).
- Unit Plural Name: Shows how the unit is displayed for quantities greater than one (e.g. Grams, Bottles).
- Edit Unit Button: An edit button appears when you hover over a default item unit. Click it to open and update the unit’s singular or plural name.
- Archive Unit Button: An archive icon appears when you hover over a row. Use this to archive the unit from the list while keeping a record of it in your system.
What’s Next?
With your Item Units set up, you can now apply them when creating or editing inventory items. This ensures items are consistently measured, whether you sell by the piece, gram, litre, or pack.
